Manchester-based Tim Denton has created a set of flexible furniture for graphic designers, retailers, pop-up shop operators, market stall owners and whoever else has a need for temporary sets.

'Display' is a system that’s flexible, customisable, upgradeable and – above all else - simple. "Everything hangs together casually but with purpose," as Tim Denton explains.

All items in the collection are constructed from birch ply, valchromat and ash timber. Boards are hung, peg boards held, and A-frames fastened together using bungees. Accompanying boxes can be nested to act as storage or display, covered with acrylic to protect precious items, or easily transformed into light boxes.

The collection is sold unfinished to allow you to make your own mark using stain, paint, engraving or vinyl as you please. Tim Denton and his team will be following the process of all 'Display' items and taking inspiration directly from the requirements of users, adding and removing items from the collection, reflecting the open-source nature of the project and encouraging users to influence future iterations.

"We are regularly approached to design and create simple display structures for exhibitions or point-of-sale environments, but the initial design fee can be a hurdle, especially in this changing world of retail and with the need for flexibility above permanence," Tim continues.

"We realised that we were trying to reinvent the wheel each time – so we started work on Display. Here we have a system that people can customise to their needs, doesn’t come with huge costs attached, and retains the flexibility to enable it to adjust constantly to the needs of its surroundings."

To give you a hands-on idea of how the 'Display' system can be used, it will be exhibited at the Old Bank Residency at NOMA this month, where design studio Standard Practice is exploring opportunities for collaboration and working with communities to make Manchester an even more exciting place to be.
