The penthouse’s flexible architectural plan is centred on two interconnecting suites; the Mandarin and the Oriental, designed to form a three-bed suite spanning the entire length of the 9th floor to create one of the most expansive penthouse suites in London. The suite’s astounding five private alfresco terraces wrap around the entire perimeter of the landmark hotel and provide unrivalled panoramic views across London’s iconic skyline.

Removed from the hustle and bustle of the city, the design of the Mandarin Oriental Penthouse seamlessly fuses the widespread indoor and outdoor areas to create a light-filled, relaxed ambiance throughout the space. To curate this rare peace in the heart of London, Joyce Wang Studio has crafted one-off furniture pieces, layering sumptuous materials in soft, muted colours to create an overall feeling of reserved, relaxed opulence. This design narrative is woven throughout the rest of the hotel; a revival of the 20th Century Golden Age of travelling combined with signature silhouettes from the era including Art Deco detailing, integrated with park-side inspired botanical textures and colours.

Nature seemingly spills brightly into the rooms through Joyce Wang’s symphonic design. The application of cork wallpaper brushed with silver leaf references the bark on trees in the park, etched mirror artwork panels create patterns inspired by the shadows cast by trees, the use of natural wood floors, stone surfaces, and an overall palette of soft pastel tones within the custom carpets, curtains and soft furnishings all add to the park-garden design story. Alluding to the Mandarin Oriental’s historic connections with the royal family, Joyce has designed bespoke light fittings as a tribute to the dazzling shapes set within the Crown Jewels.

Opal glass bedside wall lights resemble pearls, set like gems, flanking each side of the custom-design master bed. Off the master bedroom, Joyce Wang Studio has studio installed a walk-in wardrobe which flows through sliding doors into the grandeur of a spacious bathroom suite fitted with an indulgent free-standing marble soaking tub and walk-in shower. A second bedroom with two beds, balcony access and an en-suite bathroom follows the blueprint of the residential space, with every amenity one might need.

This sprawling London penthouse exudes a sophisticated elegance allowing guests to feel immediately at ease. Designed with a home-from-home feel, the installation of a private kitchen and salon with a dining table for eight creates the ultimate Knightsbridge pied-à-terre, along with a personal terrace fitted with a day bed and an outdoor dining table which is accessible from the master bedroom, adding an extra sense of serenity and oneness with nature.

“The Mandarin Oriental, Hyde Park, is a landmark for luxury, to work on a building of significant heritage in a city I hold very dear has been incredible. Our design for the Mandarin Oriental is as much a tribute to the building’s illustrious past as it is a personal vision to embrace the future of the hotel” - Joyce Wang
