Camino by sixteen3: A modular seating system with flexibility at heart.
Camino by sixteen3 is a modular seating system at the design mid-point between lounge sofa and banquette.
Customisable with functional and geometric adaptability, Camino seeks to unlock the full potential of place. The new modular seating system was born out of frustration with the limitations of flexibility.
“We found that we often encountered layouts that weren’t feasible with existing off-the-rack modular systems, and clients were having to resort to bespoke joinery, or dilute the design intent with what was available,” says product designer Hayley Lightfoot.
Our solution was a system with rigorous mathematical principles, allowing the freedom to create ambitious layouts without guesswork, awkward joins or near-miss configurations. Using just ten footprints, Camino achieves six curve diameters that unlock unique possibilities across booths, sofas, ottomans, banquettes, benches and sprawling landscapes, all from a singular design language.

With increasing demand to deliver greater value from floorplates, while accommodating a broader variety of functions – such as the blend across workplace and hospitality- sixteen3 wanted Camino to address adaptability across other axes too.
Drawing inspiration from urbanism - public spaces like the campo, and particularly the different ways people move through and engage with places of all scales – the design team applied the same principles to other aspects of the product. Sitting at the design mid-point between lounge sofa and banquette, Camino offers a carefully balanced user experience: equally comfortable and functional, however it’s used. It pairs naturally with dining, work, coffee and laptop tables, ensuring multi-functionality and maximising both value and adaptability per square metre.
Future-proof and adaptable, Camino can scale, contract, or reconfigure as space requirements evolve. Responsibly made by hand in Britain, Camino’s FSC® timber frame is combined with carefully balanced layers of foam with recon and recycled content. Every detail is crafted to minimise environmental impact while maximising comfort and performance.
