d line launches Re-handle®: A circular system saving the environment up to 90% CO2 emission.

d line - the heritage Danish design brand conceiving and hand crafting enduring architectural hardware, sanitary ware and solutions for barrier-free living - will now take in original products to be 'Re-handled'.

They fix, replace and brush them to work good as new, with each Re-handle® saving the environment up to 90% CO2 emission.

Sometimes good as new is better

d line's new system allows its products to undergo a Re-handle® up to four times. With each Re-handle®, the 20-year product warranty period is renewed, securing 100 years of use. With an asking price for a Re-handled product that is 60% lower than a newly produced item, it makes reuse a more straight-forward choice.

Designed to never become waste

Long before the current climate crisis we find ourselves in, d line made a promise to create products that are timeless in their design, and enduring in their strength, so that they wouldn’t need to be bought for a purpose more than once. It is this uncompromising approach to design and its complete supply chain control, that makes Re-handle® the most revolutionary circular system in the industry.

Reuse in order to reduce

d line knows that every new product put into the world has severe CO2 impacts. By choosing to Re-handle® its products instead of producing new, significant reductions can be made with regards to carbon footprint - between 54-91% saved, depending on the product. d line knows this, because it has documented its products’ complete Global Warming Potential (CO2 emission) across the entire life cycle, based on fully documented, internationally recognised Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs executed and verified by third party).

A circular system in practice

When the old office of SU Styrelsen (Public Administration for The Danish students' Grants and Loans Scheme) were to be repurposed as student accommodation, it was done with great deftness to the reusing and upcycling of the original elements.

It is often the small things that makes the biggest impact, and when Contractor Einar Kornerup contacted one of d line's Danish partners during the remodelling of SU styrelsen's office space, the focus was put on optimising the building from an environmental point of view.

Having seen that the original Knud Holscher lever handles were still as enduring as when first specified, it was natural that these should continue into the new abodes as a way to repurpose, reuse and avoid unnecessary waste.

The locksmith therefore carefully dismounted and stored the existing lever handles during construction work, and remounted all lever handles with new screws and PVC bushes so that they could live in the spaces they occupy, forever.

From the sourcing of non-corrosive high quality AISI316 stainless steel to the unique d line ball bearing system of 21 balls that roll against each other behind its lever roses, these lever handles will continue to stand the test of time.
