Caesarstone on industry innovation, accreditation, and design credentials.

Caesarstone on industry innovation, accreditation, and design credentials.

Caesarstone has been a pioneer in surface innovation since 1987, driven by "design passion and cutting-edge technological power".

A Partner of Material Source Studio in Manchester and London, and having recently changed the surface sector's course with the launch of ICON - a "revolutionary advanced fusion surface category, that is crystalline silica-free and includes ~80% recycled materials" - we were keen to share insight into the brand's offering to support your specification journey.

In the following Q&A with Jonathan Stanley, VP of marketing, Caesarstone, we chat heritage, innovation, sustainability, and what's next.

Tell us about Caesarstone, its design credentials and heritage?

"Established in 1987, Caesarstone is a global leader in premium surfaces, specialising in designs that create dynamic and inspiring spaces. With an award-winning, global multi-material portfolio of over 100 colours, Caesarstone combines innovative technology with powerful design passion. Spearheading the market for high-quality, sustainable surfaces, the Caesarstone brand delivers timeless beauty with functional resilience – creating materials for a vast range of indoor and outdoor applications.

"Since pioneering quartz countertops almost four decades ago, we have continued to innovate in both aesthetics and performance, expanding into porcelain, mineral, and most recently Caesarstone ICON - the next generation of advanced fusion surfaces. Formulated with up to 80% recycled content, ICON results in superior sustainability, exceptional robustness, and remarkable design versatility.

"We believe the future of surfaces lies in integrated responsibility, where performance, safety, sustainability and design excellence are not separate pillars but intrinsically connected. For nearly 40 years, Caesarstone has been at the forefront of surface innovation, and we will continue to lead developments looking forward."

What makes Caesarstone different from other brands out there?

"Caesarstone surfaces are highly trusted worldwide. We’ve been at the helm of surface innovation since our beginnings, driven by our design passion and cutting-edge technological power. The market is awash with engineered stones of vastly varied quality – aesthetically and technically – and the danger is that most people assume that they are all the same. Architects and designers need to consider if the worktop brand they are choosing has a long warranty, transparent technical information, certifications (such as Declare labels), and ESG policies. The global A&D community has always been able to trust the Caesarstone brand, and we want that to continue by maintaining high standards and holding ourselves accountable.

"From a design perspective, Caesarstone surfaces have an authenticity and unique organic quality that truly sets them apart. They are found in the most stylish spaces around the world, and are specified by leading architects and interior designers. Our in-house design team spearheads the passion for design. Whilst working closely with leading global trend forecasters to understand wider, often complex, societal changes long ahead of other players in the space, there is also a refreshingly simple approach of taking a deeper look at the world around us."

"Each expertly crafted Caesarstone slab meets the highest technical standards and promises a lifetime of elegance for the home, while also meeting the demanding requirements of the heaviest traffic areas in commercial settings. Our research and design teams invest heavily in their craft, studying trends and experimenting with finishes and colour tones to create collections that have a visual style and tactility that most people respond to."

What are the latest innovations in surfaces right now, and what is driving these innovations?

"The desire for engineered stone continues to grow. However, more than ever, designers are selecting surfaces with longevity and environmental impact in mind. There's a growing aversion to ‘fast surfaces’ - products that are cheaply made and quickly replaced. This parallels a wider shift in interiors: a return to lasting, high-quality materials that are responsibly made and honestly priced.

"At the same time, transparency and traceability are becoming a key benchmark of trust. Buyers increasingly want to know what a product is made of, how it was produced, and by whom. Third-party certifications, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), and verified safety data are no longer seen as nice-to-haves, but as critical tools for making informed, ethical choices.

"As the market grows, designers will continue to demand more: more transparency, more durability, more design integrity. Surfaces will increasingly be viewed not as isolated functional elements, but as part of holistic ecosystems. There are signs in the market that unproven, cheap stone materials with little or no provenance are falling away.

"We’re investing heavily in the next generation of surfaces that not only provide superior performance, but tell a more thoughtful, future-facing story. As an industry, we need to move away from the idea that more sustainable and safer products are premium alternatives."

You have recently launched new designs under Caesarstone ICON. What is so innovative about these new surfaces? Where did your in-house design team look for inspiration?

"In July this year, we were delighted to unveil two new designs under the Caesarstone ICON category - 8151 Moonflow and 8477 Ocean Sage. As the world leader in pioneering surface design, these new designs represent an exciting new chapter for the Caesarstone brand.

"8151 Moonflow features a bone-white base layered with soft creams and beiges, forming translucent alluvial bands that evoke the serenity of moonlight and mist. The delicate layering creates gentle depth and visual calm. 8477 Ocean Sage, by contrast, takes inspiration from the shifting green tones of nature. A deep-sea green base is mottled with cream and white foam, while seaweed-like veining flows across a smoky grey backdrop. The result is a surface rich in movement, atmosphere and organic drama – quietly bold, yet effortlessly refined.

"As with every new product, our in-house design begins with the same consideration: an exploration of the world outside our window. Whether it is the motion and beauty of a changing coastline, the stillness and calm of the desert landscape, or the diverse urban textures seen in our bustling towns and cities, their inspirations come from the world around us.

"8151 Moonflow and 8477 Ocean Sage embody Caesarstone’s holistic approach to product innovation, offering designers the opportunity to reconnect with nature, craftsmanship and conscience. Both surfaces speak to a growing desire for softness, translucency and sensory depth in modern interiors, all while upholding Caesarstone’s core values of design excellence and environmental integrity.

"ICON surfaces, in particular, offer enhanced visual transparency, a greater sense of depth, and a heightened tactile dimension and texture. Through reducing the silica content and increasing the recycled material content, we have pioneered a new aesthetic in engineered stone. Crafted with an impressive up to 80% recycled materials, ICON continues Caesarstone’s legacy of design leadership, reflecting our unwavering commitment to precision, durability, and a timeless aesthetic – truly the perfect blend of beauty and sustainability."

Why does Caesarstone ICON appeal to architects and designers do you think?

"ICON by Caesarstone marks a new era in premium surface design – a groundbreaking technology in advanced fusion surfaces that redefines material innovation, without the presence of crystalline silica. Combining ethereal beauty with superior performance, ICON offers a safer and more sustainable solution for surface applications. Developed using Caesarstone’s pioneering expertise and technology, ICON surfaces substitute quartz as the primary material base, without compromising on durability, functionality or aesthetics.

"With ICON, we’ve effectively created a new category that harmoniously fuses sustainability, cutting-edge innovation, and high design. It's not just crystalline silica-free; it's also remarkably durable, inherently non-porous, and definitively design-forward, meticulously crafted to meet Caesarstone's established high standards, making it extremely appealing to architects and designers.

"At a recent Material Source event in Glasgow, we presented the new ICON surfaces to the design community. The feedback was extremely positive, with designers celebrating the innovative and forward-thinking finishes behind the new ICON designs. It was wonderful to see the response first-hand, especially from the A&D community."

What sustainability credentials does Caesarstone hold? What is the balance between sustainability and aesthetics?

"Sustainability, longevity, and durability have become top priorities for architects and designers over the past few years. As a brand, sustainability lies at the heart of our ethos at Caesarstone. We hold a steadfast commitment to our planet’s wellbeing, as demonstrated in our latest Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) progress report.

"Additionally, Caesarstone is proud to hold Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification for many of its products, with new products being certified regularly as part of the brand’s commitment to providing transparency on the sustainability of its products. Caesarstone has also earned ISO 14001 (environmental management standard), ISO 9001 (quality management standard), and NSF (public health and safety) certification, has third-party verified Declare Label status, and offers a unique Lifetime Warranty across all residential applications. This warranty can also be transferred to the new owner of the home, adding value to a property whilst continuing its sustainable future.

"We are on a path toward a completely crystalline silica-free product portfolio worldwide, and our ICON products deliver a safer, crystalline silica-free blend, increased sustainability with up to 80% recycled materials, including high-quality, post-industrial recycled glass, while also giving us greater design flexibility, bringing more depth and translucency to our product range.

"However, our journey towards a more sustainable future continues. Every day, we are striving to establish a safer, more environmentally secure future for us all."

What can we expect next from Caesarstone?

"Caesarstone has always been known as an innovator in product design and material science, and following significant launches last year across our mineral and porcelain surfaces, we’ve got lots coming up.

"In the short term, following the launch of our ICON technology and two new designs, 8151 Moonflow and 8477 Ocean Sage, we have another dynamic ICON surface set to launch this autumn. Alongside new designs, we will also continue to transition more of our best-sellers to the ICON formula.

"Further innovations include two new Calacatta inspired designs that meet the market trend for bold, vibrant marble motifs whilst remaining affordable for most schemes. Earlier this year, we updated our UK pricing structure, making some of our most popular designs available at extremely competitive prices. This introduced our Essentials range, designed to have broad market appeal at the most competitive pricing for any Caesarstone product.

"Especially for the A&D community, we want to help designers achieve their desired look while meeting budget requirements. Competitive pricing also helps to protect designers’ specifications from the scourge of value engineering. Far from being a collection of plain basics, the range includes best sellers, such as 1001 Riverlet, as well as brand new Calacatta designs.

"We also moved several highly sought-after designs from PG Premium 4 down to PG Premium 3, representing a 17% reduction in price compared to the previous quarter. These designs include 5151 Empira White, 5101 Empira Black, 6131 Bianco Drift, 5000 London Grey, and the unique 4033 Rugged Concrete.

"Further ahead in 2025, we are planning for the reveal of exciting new Porcelain surfaces in our countertop category, and further thickness options for some of our most popular Porcelain designs. Keep watching this space."
