Masquespacio presents its latest project - a citrus inspired scheme for the first Mango Teen store in Barcelona.

Mango’s team had already developed a series of pop-ups to test several parameters for its new store concept. And amongst them, the use of colour was highlighted as one of the most relevant for their permanent retail premises. In addition, the brief specified that the store needed to have a high level of experiential and interactive attraction.

In response, the Masquespacio team went about analysing Mango Teen’s customer base of girls and boys between 11 and 13 years old, to ensure the design they created truly resonated.

“The best thing of being a teen is that you are living the whole time in a world full of dreams, a world full of things to be discovered. It’s an age where you start to dream big, without taking in mind the limits. Above in your dreams strange things are happening that are out of the box… things that are not real.…”, said founder and creative director of Masquespacio, Ana Hernández.

The idea for the new Mango Teen store was then rooted in a world of dreams. Although here, the dreams are made reality.

Ana Hernández commented: “The entrance tunnel makes us go back to that surreal dream we had, taking us to a future in which conventional elements from the past are being considered futuristic for the new generations.”

A swimming pool, a hotel reception and a washing machine are amongst the seemingly unrelated elements that invite visiting teens to enter a universe in which a new use is given to everyday objects. However, each serves its own purpose. The swimming pool is used as an exhibition space, while the hotel reception is the place to pay and next to it the washing machine will help customers to recycle their old clothes. In the changing rooms, an optical effect is inspired by the metaverse.

Throughout, the design aims to challenge and contrast usual forms, while retaining gender neutrality.
