Amsterdam-based boutique natural stone supplier SolidNature has revealed its Green Stone Collection, offering a range of high-quality alternatives to monochrome marbles like Carrara which are commonly used by architects and designers for luxury interiors. The collection extends to semi-precious stones including translucent onyx, agate and quartzite.

This is the first of four natural stone collections for 2019 that showcase the company’s current stock of rare and top-quality marble, travertine, onyx and semi-precious stone. The other three collections encompass stones with earth tones, vibrant colours and translucent properties.

Natural stone is formed organically over millions of years, so veins and colours vary from quarry to quarry and even block to block. SolidNature separates its new stock into collections that encompass broad bands of colour to help its clients to decide which one would suit each project. It also offers a range of finishes from polished to honed (matt), sand-blasted, bush- hammered or leathered.

SolidNature’s in-house procurement team sources natural stone from 150 quarries around the world, responding to requests from its high-end clients in architecture, fashion, art and design, and hospitality. These clients include Rem Koolhaas, Fendi, Fondazione Prada in Milan, The Lanesborough hotel in London, and The Park Hyatt hotel in Vienna. Quality is guaranteed because the company has complete control over every step of the supply chain.

When sourcing its stones, SolidNature insists the owners, directors and managers of its quarries adhere to standard health and safety, environmental and human rights policies for their workers. Regular unannounced visits are undertaken to ensure these standards are enforced, and the procurement team also visits local villages and communities to monitor housing, sanitation and education for the workforce.
