Launching at this year’s hotly anticipated Clerkenwell Design Week, Domus has teamed up with famed London-based multi-disciplinary artist and designer, Yinka Ilori to create his debut tile collection – Yinka Ilori x Domus.

Yinka Ilori x Domus introduce Yinka’s eclectic, mood-boosting colour palette and patterns across two new ranges - instilling playfulness, joy and boundless possibility into surface design and interiors.

Recently celebrated at the Design Museum as part of the Parables for Happiness exhibition, Yinka Ilori’s bold, visual language draws on his British-Nigerian heritage to convey new narratives through contemporary design. Taking inspiration from Nigerian parables and verbal traditions, Yinka touches on a multitude of themes that resonate with a global audience.

His work is underpinned by the belief that art and design should be accessible to all. Humorous, provocative and playful, his projects demonstrate how design can bring together communities and have a positive impact on society - evoking a sense of joy and optimism. Often using the city as his canvas, he reimagines spaces to encourage a sense of community and invites audiences to engage and participate in his work and its surroundings.

The Yinka Ilori x Domus tile collection presents a continuation of Yinka’s design work and homeware to date, presenting his vision to evoke optimism through vibrant use of colour in tandem with abstract forms and patterns. Drawing on inspiration from nature and sunlight alongside his British-Nigerian heritage, the two ranges – Glaze and Screen – capture the dynamic, geometric lines and shapes used across traditional African patterns and architecture.

Ever since launching my first homeware collection, I’ve worked with everyday objects, using them as a canvas to translate pattern and colour for our homes. Collaborating with Domus presented an opportunity to explore how we can encourage creative expression and inject joy and optimism into pockets of the home. - Yinka Ilori

Artisanal & Industrial

Fusing artisanal craftsmanship with industrial technology, both Yinka Ilori x Domus ranges are made in Portugal, lending the tiles a distinctive aesthetic and bringing a beautifully rich character to Ilori’s work.

Working closely with the workshop in Portugal, we have been able to develop two beautiful tile ranges that center around the idea of being present, whilst celebrating nature. Featuring a mix of patterns with rich and soothing colours, the versatile collection encourages individuals and designers to create their own rules. I’m excited to see how people adapt my work in their own personal way. - Yinka Ilori

Endless Design Possibilities

The entire collection is designed to enable countless combinations, the versatile nature of the modular geometric shapes, the range of colours and the dynamic patterns allow endless possibilities for creating unique schemes. Through mixing colours and shapes, Ilori’s tile collection encourages experimentation, play and discovery through surface design.

To launch the collection, Yinka Ilori will present a window display installation in his well-loved, characteristic style - demonstrating the creative potential of the new collection across both new ranges. The installation will open at Domus Clerkenwell, 23 – 25 Great Sutton Street, London EC1M 5PU during Clerkenwell Design Week on Tuesday 23 May.

Jon Newey, Domus CEO comments: “We were drawn to working with Yinka after seeing his wonderous style applied across numerous architectural and design projects in London and beyond over the last few years. His unique application of colour and pattern which aims to improve the everyday seemed a perfect fit with tile design, an enduring addition to any interior space.”
